	MARK ALLEN I	1965-1966	One of the original WIXY jocks, doing the 8-11 evening shift. Got drafted after only 2 months at WIXY, and was replaced by Joey Reynolds. 	MARK ALLEN II	1974-1976	The second Mark Allen (not his real name). Currently working as Bob Charles, in both radio and TV, still in Northeastern Ohio. (The aircheck is spliced together from different sources.) In October of 2014 Mark Allen joined WIXY1260Online as a special guest DJ, Announcer and consultant. Sadly, Mark passed away July 14, 2016.
	BOB ANCELL	1967	Worked at WIXY for a time in 1967 before moving to Montreal, Canada. Continued to work in radio in Canada until his untimely death in the late 1980's.
	NICK ANTHONY	1975
	JACK ARMSTRONG	1966-1967	"Your Leader," Jack is an absolute legend in radio, known for his shotgun-rapid-fire delivery which made the Guinness Book of World Records (at 500 words per minute!). Jack was at WIXY for only one year, moving to Cleveland's WKYC in 1967 (where he was known as Big Jack), and was replaced by Dick "Wilde Childe" Kemp. The December 1966 aircheck is short, but shows Jack at his absolute best!! Jack passed away after falling down a flight of stairs in March, 2008.

	BILL BAILEY	1975	Bill worked briefly at WIXY in 1975, and unfortunately passed away at age 65 in June, 2013.
	CHUCK BARRON
	BILLY BASS	1968-1972	Billy did overnights, replacing Bobby Magic. Had a very low-keyed and relaxed style. Currently runs his own photography business in Cleveland; website is www.billybassphotography.com
	BILL BLACK	1975	Bill passed away in 1988.
	VICTOR BOC	1967	During his lengthy radio career, Victor has served as news-director, talk-show host, and disc-jockey. He has hosted local radio programs on several legendary stations across the United States. http://www.radio.victorboc.com/
	GEORGE BREWER		George left WPOP for WIXY and later worked at WIXZ, and served there as the Program Director. He was working in the promotions department of CBS Records when he passed away in 1973.
	JERRY BROOKE	1966-1967	Came to WIXY in 1966 from California, and had a real "announcer" style. Father of the "Brookeburger," two records played back-to-back. Did most of the voice-over work while at WIXY. Left after one year to go to Cincinnati. Jerry passed away in the early 2000s.

	JERRY BUTLER		The Butler did it! Began at WIXY, then moved to WIXZ. Jerry Butler moved to KXOX in 1968, then to WKRO in 1969-1970. Tragically, Jerry took his own life in the summer of 1976, in California, after a stint at KGIL in Los Angeles.
	JOHNNY CANTON	1965-1966	Part of WIXY's original line-up, was the first afternoon man. Left in Dec. 1966 to move to Minneapolis-St. Paul, where he now runs Canton Communications and still works in radio part-time. Johnny Canton had a small role in the 1970 Universal movie "Airport." Some screenshots of him in that movie are in our Happenings Gallery (click here). Sadly, Johnny passed away in December of 2016.

	GARY DRAKE	1973-1974	Another upbeat yet personable WIXY jock from the early 70s. This aircheck is from Feb. 13, 1974, and was supplied by Gary himself, who now resides in Alabama.
	CHUCK DUNAWAY	1968-1973	Chuck came to WIXY in 1968 and stayed for years. Also was the Program Director of WIXZ-1360 in McKeesport, PA for a time. Known for his upbeat, personable delivery. Got out of radio in 1994 and is now retired.

	AL GATES	1965-1966	Al "Gatesy" Gates and his sidekick "Feathers" were Cleveland's first morning "team" and Al was WIXY's first Morning Man, before moving to afternoons in early 1966. Low-keyed, relaxed style best describes Al Gates, who now resides in Connecticut and does voice and announcing work.

	CHIP HOBART	1971-1972	Like Steve Hunter (directly below), left CKLW (where he was Chuck Hobart) to join WIXY where he did all-nights. Left WIXY to join Steve in Boston.
	STEVE HUNTER	1971	Came to WIXY after a stint at Canadian powerhouse CKLW. One of the most popular jocks at both CKLW AND WIXY, known for his exciting, upbeat announcing style. You can read Steve's memoirs of his CKLW and WIXY days here.
	TERRY JACKSON
	MIKE KELLY	1972	Mike worked the all-night shift at WIXY, from midnight until 5:30 am. During his show, Mike kept a list of phone numbers handy so he could refer troubled callers to the proper agencies for help. Mike left WIXY after 1 year and went to a few stations in California. He is now living in Utah.
	DICK “WILDE CHILDE” KEMP	1967-1969	The Wilde Childe WAS wild...probably one of the loudest DJs ever on WIXY! Stayed at WIXY for 2 years, then went to WIXY's sister station WIXZ in McKeesport, PA. Dick is now retired and living in Alaska.

	TRUCKIN TOM KENT	1974-1975	"Truckin' Tom Cookin' Kent" was at WIXY in its later years. Had a wild, crazy, and LOUD style!! This aircheck was taped on his last day at WIXY. Tom still resides in Cleveland, currently doing a syndicated satellite radio show, Hall of Fame Coast to Coast. Tom's show can be heard in Cleveland on Sunday nights on WMJI. 	HAL KING	1973	Hal (Helmut Kerling) passed away June 24, 2009, at the age of 59. He was fiercely brilliant and could have given Jon Stewart a run for the money. He also worked at Cleveland's WHK and in San Diego as Gary Cocker. 	LOU KING KIRBY	1967-1971	Enjoyed a good 4-year run on WIXY, working evenings. His style was wild and full of humor. Left WIXY to go to WMMS (FM) and do the morning show. Moved to Cancun, Mexico, in the 1980s, and is no longer in radio.
	CHUCK KNAPP	1969-1971	Known as "The Knapper," Chuck arrived at WIXY from WRKO in Boston. He had an upbeat and personable style, and retired from radio in 2013. This aircheck includes two promos for WIXY's Bridal Fair, which was a yearly WIXY event. Also included is a short newscast by Jack Mitchell.
	BOBBY KNIGHT	1971-1973	Another jock who worked at both WIXY and WIXZ, McKeesport. Currently Program Director of WSBB, Daytona Beach, FL. This aircheck is spliced together from two different shows.
	JIM LABARBARA	1966-1969	Known as "Cleveland's Most Eligible Bachelor" and "The Music Professor" (due to his incredible knowledge of music and the groups of the '60s and '70s), Jim has a conversational, entertaining style. Jim's last radio gig was in Cincinnati, Ohio at WGRR, he retired in 2009.
	DICK LIBERATORE	1967	Dick worked at numerous Cleveland stations in the 1960s and 70s, playing oldies on his "Big Beat" show. He was part-time at WIXY in 1967, doing weekends. Now works in Las Vegas, under the name Mark Richards.

	BOBBY MAGIC	1966-1971	Known as both "Magic Man" and "The All-Night Satellite," Bobby's laid-back, personable style was perfect for overnights.
	JEFF MCKEE	1971-1973	Jeff came to WIXY from Milwaukee, at the ripe old age of 19, and replaced Chip Hobart on the evening shift. Left in 1973 to go to KNUS in Dallas.
	JOHNNY MICHAELS	1965-1966	Part of WIXY's original line-up, Johnny had a very easygoing, laid-back style.
	PAXTON MILLS	1974-1975	Paxton came to WIXY in 1974 and had a nice personable yet up-tempo style. Worked his last radio job in Denver, and passed away in 2001.
	JACK MITCHELL
	LARRY MORROW		Larry came to WIXY after two successful years as "Duke Windsor" at Canadian powerhouse CKLW. Keeping "The Duker" persona at WIXY, Larry gained a loyal following and WIXY listeners enjoyed his personable style. Larry left WIXY in 1972 to move to Cleveland's WKYC. 	MACK OWENS
	RAY OTIS	1966	Previously worked at WHK, WKMH, and KXOK before going to WIXY in Feb., 1966, as their second morning man. Now doing free-lance voice work out of New York.
	CHRIS QUINN	1970-1973	Chris had knocked around Cleveland radio for decades, and unfortunately passed away in Sept., 2008.
	MIKE REINERI	1967-1975	Had a long run as WIXY's ultimate Morning Man, perfecting the call-in morning show. Was opinionated and passionate about his show. His last gig was in West Palm Beach, Florida. Mike passed away in 2003 at age 60.
	JOEY REYNOLDS	1966	Did a short stint on WIXY, working the 7 to midnight shift, in early 1966. A legend in his own right, known for his spontaneity and humor. Inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in the early 2000s. Worked in New York City at WOR-FM until early 2010.

	Bill Clark	1966-1966	Bill Clark who was the WIXY newsman in WIXY's heyday and part of the morning show with Mike Reinieri died October 25th, 2016. He lived in Nashville after moving from Cleveland. He was 81. He was also an owner of the WIXY School of Broadcast Technique which later became the Ohio School of Broadcasting. He was divorced and has two sons live in Nashville. One is with the CBS TV affiliate and the other with a Sound Company in Nashville.

Personality Plus!

WIXY had more than its share of disk jockeys during its 10-year run...our list counts over 70! And since WIXY was known as SuperRadio in its early days, of course its jocks were the WIXY SUPERMEN!

The jocks are listed alphabetically. Where no info is given, we couldn't find any info or aircheck on him. If there is a speaker in the right-hand column, click it to play an aircheck of that jock.

All of the airchecks are "scoped", meaning the songs and commercials are removed, leaving only the DJ, jingles, and in some cases, newscasts.

CHUCK DUNAWAY writes:

Most holidays that Mike Reineri and Bill Clark had to work, they made it a food feast holiday in the WIXY control room. They would plan elaborate meals for themselves and any of the other employees who had holiday duty and came in during Mike's morning show. They didn't talk about it on the air, but it was known that they had food being prepared on most holidays they had to work. If you had to relieve them for a show or wandered by the studio on a holiday you could smell the food cooking all the way to the elevator. Upper management wasn't aware, I don't think. The biggest problem was that the food was cooked in the control room which wasn't huge. The grease and smell were a problem for engineers who looked the other way....as did everyone who knew about the Reineri-Clark cooking adventures.
Bill Clark celebrated his 70th birthday recently in Nashville and Mike has passed away in Florida, but the memories of those two unique and wonderful gentlemen lives on in the halls of WIXY 1260 and our minds.
